About Twin Skin Log Cabins

Twin Skin Log Cabins are also known as Twin Wall Log Cabins, Dual Wall Log Cabins, Double Wall Log Cabins and Insulated Log Cabins. They are a design with 2 wall layers (one outer wall and one inner wall) with a cavity or gap in between them where insulation is placed. This space in betwwen the walls can also be used to place services in the log cabins such as electric sockets and lights, computer cabling or water supplies. Normally the roofs and floors are also insulated to give good all round performance.

In fact the weakest link as far as thermal properties are concerned in Twin Skin Log Cabins is the windows and doors. Here at Bargain Log Cabins we have addressed this issue in all of our Log Cabins (not just the Twin Skin Log Cabins) and now use The Best Windows and Doors Available.

Our new windows are now Tilt and turn with a 5 point locking system, added rubber weatherproof seals and Euro double glazing

Please check this against our competitors as you will not find better.

How to work out internal measurements of Twin Skin Log Cabins

A = 4000mm (or 4m)

B = 220mm (or 0.22m)

B is 35mm wall log + 50mm insulation + 35mm wall log + 100mm overhang

To work out the internal measurements take away 2 x the measurement of B from the wall lenght A

Eg

A = 4000mm

B = 440mm (220mm +220mm)

Internal measurement C = 4000mm - 440mm = 3560mm or 3.560m

Do this for each wall and you can work out your internal floor space. If any of the measurements are different for your cabin then just use those values instead. Eg log thickness or wall length.

Information about dual wall log cabins:

  We supply the largest range of twin skin buildings in the country. The twin skin system has been developed by our mill and perfected utilizing the latest techniques. Twin Skin Log Cabins are also known as Twin Wall Log Cabins, Dual Wall Log Cabins, Double Wall Log Cabins and Insulated Log Cabins. If you are considering using your cabin all year round then we strongly recommend that you purchase an insulated cabin for its thermal values as they are second to none, wood thickness alone does not compare to a insulated log cabin.

The twin skin wall system:  We supply our twin skins in two wall log thicknesses either 34mmx34mm or 44mmx44mm both of which consist of 2 layers -one outer wall and one inner wall layer with a 50mm cavity in between which can be filled with insulation, all walls have vertical threaded rods running through holding the structure tightly together. This Twin Wall system is not only extremely strong but it also surpasses the thermal values of a normal log cabin.  The cavity space in between the walls can also be used to place/hide services, such as electrical cables, sockets and lights, computer cabling or water supplies etc.

Windows and doors:The weakest link as far as thermal properties are concerned in Twin Skin Log Cabins is the windows and doors. Our mill has worked extremely hard to amend this issue in all of our Log Cabins and now use The Best Windows and Doors Available. Our new windows are Tilt and turn with a 5-point locking system, added rubber weatherproof seals and Euro double-glazing.  Please note:  Most of our competitors do not use the new Langham style windows and doors, which is what makes their versions of the twin skin inferior to ours.

Roof system:  The unique twin skin roof consists of 2 layers, the outer section which is used to add strength is made from 19mm T&G boarding and the inner layer which is used for it’s thermal values is made from 19mm T&G, however not only do you get 2 layers of wood but you also get a 100mm cavity for insulation which will decrease any heat loss considerably. (Think of the difference it made when you had your loft insulated in your house!)

Insulation: There are many different types of insulation available on the market; we have chosen to only supply (at extra cost) a selection of these types that we feel offers our customers best value for money.25mm foil backed polyurethane for thefloors and roof or "Airfoil" Class 1 Surface Spread Flame Tested to BS 476 Part 7. Equivalent to 55mm Polystyrene

Floor system: The floor is made from a study T&G boarding, which is supported by 70mm impregnated joists, which allows insulation to be fitted under the floor if required.

Installation: All of our cabins are supplied in kit form; all timbers are cut to size and pre-machined for perfect joints. There is no technical no how needed, as all walls just interlock together and the roof and floor are easily nailed/screwed into place. The only thing on any cabin that may need cutting is the width of the boards located at either end of the roof and floor.  Note: If you think that you need to cut anything else then please stop immediately and contact us for advice. If you would prefer to have your cabin installed by professionals then we have a fully trained team available for hire, appropriate prices are located on each product page.
