Log
Cabin Bases
Please note any advice given must be adjusted for your
particular cicumstances Eg. ground conditions, size of Log Cabin
etc.
In general Log Cabins do
not put exceptional loading onto the base as the weight of the
building tends to be spread over the whole wall length. Having said
that it is of the utmost importance your base is of a sufficient
quality to enable the Log Cabin to be installed
properly. Bases must be level and flat (to within certain
tolerances) if they are not this can cause problems not only
when installing but in the future as the cabin settles and adjusts
to enviromental conditions.
The best sort of base is a
concrete slab that is poured onto some compacted hardcore. It is
not normally necassary to include reinforcing mesh but it may be
needed on larger bases or where there is a risk of
cracking.
Other methods of installing
bases include paving slabs, tanalised timber frames, or even
decking.
It is important with
any method that is used that the job is done properly as your Log
Cabin will last a very long time so it would be a shame to
spoil it because of the base.
